Abstract

Debate is an argumentative activity between two or more parties, either individually or in groups, in discussing and deciding problems and differences. The active debate method is a unique learning method because it encourages students to actively cooperate and compete in learning. Debate is also a method that involves all students in the class and also involves teachers, so that both play an active role without anyone dominating. This method is expected to be able to train students to be able to speak in front of the class and be able to build students' mentality to dare to speak in public, through this active debate can help students to get used to speaking in public and be able to improve students' communication skills and be able to provide stimulus so that students can express their opinions logically and politely. The application of the active debate method and its strategies in optimizing it is believed to have a positive impact in supporting the effectiveness of Learning. Teachers can also combine the active debate method with various strategies and relevant learning media in an effort to increase its effectiveness. The purpose of this active debate method is to train students to find strong arguments in solving a controversial problem and have a democratic attitude and respect each other towards differences of opinion.
