Abstract

This study examines socio-cultural da'wah in the era of modernization through a da'wah mapping study in Panjang Wetan Village, North Pekalongan District, Pekalongan City. Modernization in this coastal area has resulted in a shift in the socio-economic structure of the community, from a traditional fishing community to an urban labor community. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The results reveal three main findings. First, modernization has changed community life patterns, thereby affecting religious participation. Second, local wisdom such as the sedekah laut tradition and rebana art still survives as an effective cultural da'wah medium amid the currents of modernization. Third, formal da'wah institutions (Islamic boarding schools, ta'lim assemblies) and non-formal ones (Islamic mass organizations: NU, Muhammadiyah, LDII) play a central role in maintaining socio-religious cohesion. This study recommends an integrative da'wah strategy that combines cultural-traditional approaches with digital media utilization, in order to address da'wah challenges in a transforming coastal community.
